H.S.H. Prince Albert II announced today at Monaco Ocean Week a three-year expedition, Monaco Explorations, that will sail around the world to collect data on ocean warming and climate change. Monaco Explorations continues 120 years of maritime scientific expeditions initiated by His great grandfather, Prince Albert I.
“The decisions we make upon our planet’s future depend upon knowledge,” H.S.H. Prince Albert II said. “In renewing the principle of scientific ocean exploration, we will furnish new elements tied to warnings, sensitization and education.”
The expedition will be based on the recommendations of a Scientific Steering Committee comprised of ten internationally renowned scientists, whose primary aim will be to select research programmes and choose projects. The approach will therefore be science-based, complemented by awareness-raising, communication and mediation activities.
