Richard Branson, Neil Young and Dr. Sylvia Earle – along with many other influential names — have created the not-for-profit OceanElders in attempt to bring ocean conservation to the political limelight. One aspect of the campaign includes an online community in which ideas may be voted into action. The idea for OceanElders began developing in April 2010, when more than 100 scientists, business leaders, philanthropists and celebrities gathered on the Galapagos Islands to focus on ocean conservation.
